Already!?

From cyclingnews- via AMS

The relationship that was started last fall in a Las Vegas discotheque could come to an end if Mario Cipollini does not get his say in the management of Rock Racing. The Italian, who came out of retirement at the age of 40 to race in the Tour of California last week, and his lawyer met with the owner of the team, Mike Ball, yesterday to discuss the coming season.
"We need to sit at the table and make clear who is in command," said Mario Cipollini in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport's Luigi Perna. The Italian from Lucca and lawyer Giuseppe Napoleone were scheduled to meet with Ball later in the day.
"The boss is Ball, but after him it is me. Therefore I want to manage the squad starting now. I can organise the participation in [Milano-] Sanremo. To find men to race is not a problem. ... If Ball does well it will continue, otherwise goodbye. I now understand that the name Cipollini still has value, in the United States and elsewhere."
Cipollini was happy with his return, but not with the fiasco surrounding the team and Ball's backing of Tyler Hamilton, Oscar Sevilla and Santiago Botero. The riders, all allegedly linked with Operación Puerto, were barred from racing by the organiser, but continued along daily by riding behind the race caravan and signing autographs for fans at the stage villages.
"For a week I had an infinite amount of patience ... Maybe it was my great desire to return to racing with an important project. However, we can't go forward like this. We are not able to continue to pull along this heavy weight that ruins our image, and now Ball also understands this. It is not enough to advertise and show off models."

Shimanzumi

Company Name
The first change that will be made is to the company name, which will now simply be “Shimanzumi.”
“We’re very excited by this new company name,” said Shimanzumi’s Marketing Director, Geoff Shaffer. “It’s very fun to say.”
“Shimanzumi, Shimanzumi, Shimanzumi!” continued Shaffer, by way of proving his point.
Clothing LevelsShimanzumi clothing will be aligned with component Shimano mountain and road group levels. Selected features of the new clothing lines are as follows:
Dura-Ace: The lightest, sexiest cycling clothing available for the road cyclist. As precise as it is elegant, it will make Assos look sloppy in comparison. The only reason gold thread is not used in Dura-Ace jerseys is that it is too heavy. In order to keep your Dura-Ace clothing working properly, Shimanzumi recommends having it maintained by a certified Shimanzumi mechanic every three rides.
XTR: XTR clothing will be much like Dura-Ace, but will come out two years later.
Ultegra: Ultegra cycling clothing will fit as comfortably as Dura-Ace, will weigh only trivially more, will cost less, and will in fact be more durable. However, it will be imperceptibly less sexy-looking, and your riding friends will know that you don’t consider yourself as deserving the very best.
LX: The 2010 LX clothing line will be nothing more than the 2008 XTR clothing line, with different silkscreens applied.
Tiagra: The Tiagra clothing line will fit and feel just fine, until your friend persuades you to try on a pair of Dura-Ace shorts, “just to see how they feel.” From that point forward, you’ll never be happy with your Tiagra shorts again. This is by design.
Alivio: The Alivio clothing line will be made of burlap bags that have been specially treated to combust in sunlight and dissolve in water.
New Color SchemesAll Shimanzumi clothing will be black, grey, and silver. No exceptions.
Shimanzumi Total IntegrationShimanzumi clothing is designed to be worn together: shorts, jersey, socks, shoes, and gloves. While it is theoretically possible for cyclists to ride while wearing other brands of clothing mixed in, it is not recommended.
The jerseys have been made two inches shorter, for example, to accommodate the fact that the shorts have been made to go two inches higher. As long as you wear both, you’ll have excellent midriff coverage. If, however, you wear Shimanzumi shorts with a Castelli jersey, your warranty is void, for starters. Also, Shimanzumi clothing has been found to cause rashes and chemical burns when mixed with other clothing brands.
You’re just better off discarding your existing clothing and going forward with an integrated Shimanzumi setup. It’s inevitable anyway, so you may as well embrace it.
New MarketsThe Shimanzumi alliance is uniquely positioned to cross over into additional sport markets. Specifically, look for wicking, lighweight, form-fitting hip waders to come out in 2009. Followed by a fishing vest made of high-tech fabrics in 2010, with extra-deep pockets and elastic arm gathers.
Yearly RevisionsShimanzumi will implement a planned obsolescence strategy into its clothing line, where every three years, an entirely new clothing line with new sizes and exponentially more complex clothing parts are shipped. They will be lighter and fit 15% more precisely, at which point you can expect to be scorned for wearing your previous-generation Shimanzumi clothing.
Enthusiasm and a PrecautionSays Shaffer, “We’re very excited by the new directions and opportunities this melding of two great cycling companies affords us.”
“If, however, you get a slight tear in any article of Shimanzumi clothing, discard it at once and buy a replacement. Shimanzumi clothing is not designed to be patched or otherwise repaired. Contact your nearest cycling clothing service center at once for a replacement.”

SHIMANO PURCHASES PEARL IZUMI FROM NAUTILUS, INC.

IRVINE, Calif. USA 2/19/08 -- Bringing premium sports apparel and footwear to its offering of industry-leading cycling and fishing products, Shimano has completed its purchase of DashAmerica, Inc. (dba Pearl Izumi USA, Inc.) from Nautilus, Inc., announces David Pfeiffer, president of Shimano American Corporation. Pearl Izumi becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Shimano’s U.S. operations, and will continue to operate from its facilities in Broomfield, Colorado and Kirchzarten, Germany.
“The acquisition brings together two companies started by Japanese families who share a passion for cycling,” said Pfeiffer. “Both have strong research and development backgrounds, offer industry leading innovations, and share an obsession with quality and performance. We’ll continue to build the respective brands and remain dedicated to the healthy independent dealer networks we’ve both enjoyed.”
Pfeiffer also noted that Pearl Izumi would be maintained as a stand-alone company with its own management team.
“Pearl Izumi is a leader in the performance sports apparel and footwear market, and we plan to keep them in that position,” Pfeiffer said. “Pearl Izumi’s design expertise creates products for the avid cycling and running enthusiasts and we’ll provide Juergen Eckmann (Pearl Izumi’s president) and his team with all of Shimano’s support and resources needed to continue that tradition.”
Eckmann said the acquisition is a great fit for both companies. “The entire team at Pearl Izumi USA and Europe are excited about opportunities and benefits we gain in becoming part of Shimano,” said Eckmann. “Shimano provides knowledge and expertise which will make our brand stronger and we in turn have a great deal of experience in performance apparel, fabric technologies and run footwear that Shimano did not previously possess.”
As part of a broad dual brand strategy, Pfeiffer states that Shimano will continue to offers its branded apparel and cycling footwear along with the Pearl Izumi apparel and cycling footwear in all markets.
Shimano’s acquisition includes Pearl Izumi’s facility in Kirchzarten, Germany, and the rights to Pearl Izumi sales and distribution throughout North and South America, Europe, Australia and select other countries. Pfeiffer notes the purchase does not include sales and distribution rights of Pearl Izumi branded products in Japan and most of Asia.
Shimano American Corporation is the U.S.-based subsidiary of Shimano, Inc. a multi-national manufacturer of bicycle components and fishing tackle. It now has operations in Irvine, Calif., Woodland, Wash., Broomfield, Colo., Peterborough, Ontario, and Kirchzarten, Germany.

When Does it End? Rename The Team?

Amaury Sport Organization, the company that owns the Tour de France announced Wednesday that the Astana team of defending champion Alberto Contador will not be invited to compete in that race or in any other event it organizes in 2008.
In a statement citing "the damage caused by this team to the Tour de France and cycling in general, as much in 2006 as 2007," ASO noted it would be inappropriate to allow the team to compete despite a complete shake-up of team management and significant changes on the squad’s roster.
With Contador and American Levi Leipheimer on Astana, the team includes two podium finishers from last year’s Tour. Also affected is Germany's Andreas Klöden. All three men were widely viewed as race favorites.
Contador, who also won ASO's early season stage race, Paris-Nice, was not a part of the Astana team in 2007. He and Leipheimer were both part of the U.S.-based Discovery Channel team, which folded at the end of the season. Contador, however, has been named in connection with the now-closed Operación Puerto investigation in Spain.

Get yer Tridar on!

*Beware of triathletes.

As a mountain biker, you've always been deeply suspicious of triathletes. As a road cyclist, you will find out you were correct to be so, and you will find out why. Triathletes will try to infiltrate your ranks (see photo) and join your rides, then demonstrate that they have no idea of how to ride in a group, and very little control of their direction of travel.
Most importantly, though, they wear these short shorts and tank tops that are just plain creepy.

It Just Keeps Getting Better.....

What the hell is wrong with Matthew McConaughey?

#1) You took your exercise bike outside? Why not, I don't know...go for an actual bike ride? We all know you have an actual bicycle.

#2) Is that a pen or a cigarette? I think it is a pen, but I wish it was a cigarette. Maybe all that time you're spending perfecting the art of the personal blow job would be better used for smoking or note taking, whichever it is that you trying to do while you are working on your fitness on a machine designed for indoor use.

#3) Freedom rides? Freedom riders? Does it (Do they) ride a stationary bike outdoors? Cut your hair you g.d. hippie.Anything I missed? Fill me in, in the comments!

Its Gotta be True.. ITS IN PRINT!

Submitted from our good friends at DBC-Davis Bicycycle Club, Alan.
Lance Armstrong
From Dickipedia - A Wiki of Dicks

Lance Armstrong (born Lance Edward Gunderson on September 18, 1971) is a retired road racing cyclist, cancer survivor, self-aggrandizer, and a dick.
It has been said that some men are born dicks while others have dickishness thrust upon them. Lance Armstrong falls into the second camp. An indisputably talented athlete with a solid work ethic and positive attitude, he is nonetheless insufferably self-content. This is demonstrated by his six-figure public-appearance fee and penchant for issuing vomitously trite motivational sound bites like “a boo is a lot louder than a cheer” and “pain is temporary, but if you quit it lasts forever.”

[edit]
Early Life
Lance Armstrong began his dick time trials as Lance Edward Gunderson, son of Linda Gayle Mooneyham and Eddie Charles Gunderson. The two named him, for some reason, after Lance Rentzel, a middling Dallas Cowboys wide receiver best known for indecently exposing himself to a 10-year-old girl. Lance took the last name Armstrong from one of the three more husbands his mother would go on to have, astutely recognizing that he’d get a lot further in life as an Armstrong than a Gunderson.
Armstrong also goes by the nickname Mellow Johnny, adapted from “Maille Jaune,” which is French for “I use the fact that I had cancer as an excuse for doing things like taking steroids and divorcing my wife so I could nail an Olsen twin.”
[edit]
Racing
Lance Armstrong is best known for winning the Tour de France a record seven consecutive times, leading many to consider him the world’s greatest cyclist. This is a dubious distinction, considering that cycling is arguably the world’s gayest sport, evinced by the vast quantity of Spandex and the fact that so many French people love it.
To some, Armstrong’s performance in the Alps stages of the race is an incredible physical feat, on par with Indian guru Sri Chinmoy who used to lift airplanes with his penis. To detractors, it is little more than the product of continuous training, also on par with Indian guru Sri Chinmoy who used to lift airplanes with his penis.
Nevertheless, Lance Armstrong is credited with revolutionizing the sport, most notably in bringing together a wide array of sponsors to fund, train, and outfit himself. Armstrong was a pioneer in taking this NASCAR-esque approach to bike racing, only without the alcoholism and confederate flag bikinis.
In addition to rigorous training, Lance Armstrong owes his success to several outside factors, including a higher lung capacity than the average person, a 30% larger heart, and much lower levels of lactate in his blood. Also, steroids. Some critics have even gone so far as to theorize that testicular cancer actually helped him win the Tour de France, a charge based on the phenomenon that eunuchs are more aerodynamic.
Lance Armstrong officially retired from racing on July 24, 2005, at the end of the Tour de France, coincidentally just minutes before the nurse showed up to test his blood.
[edit]
Doping
Throughout his career, Lance Armstrong has continually denied using performance-enhancing drugs, an obvious indication that he has. Armstrong claims to be the “most tested athlete in the world,” having withstood various courtroom trials, official examinations, and reports by teammates, with no clear evidence of doping ever found. Many wonder why Roger Clemens never asked for consultation.
In 2005, responding to calls from the International Olympic Committee and the World Anti-Doping Agency, UCI, the world governing body of cycling, appointed Dutch lawyer Emile Vrijman to conduct an independent study of Armstrong’s urine tests. He, too, found nothing, marking the first time a Dutchman was unable to find dope.
[edit]
Cancering
Like fellow dick Rudy Giuliani, Lance Armstrong is a noted survivor of “man-part carcinoma.” He has since become the public face of cancer of the balls.
Armstrong’s treatment included brain and testicular surgery, extensive chemotherapy, and even more extensive self-promotion, most notably in the form of “Livestrong” bracelets. Thanks to him, half of all Americans are still walking around with ridiculous yellow rubber bands around their wrists. (In Armstrong’s defense, would you wear a bracelet that said “Liveunderson”?)
[edit]
Personal Life
Lance Armstrong married Kristin Richard in 1998. After bearing him three children, caring for them while he spent up to half a year, every year, training in Spain, and then supporting him through major illness and recovery, Armstrong rewarded his wife by dumping her for singer-songwriter Cheryl Crow. He subsequently broke off his engagement to Ms. Crow after she was diagnosed with cancer. That, apparently, was too much of a downer for him.
In October 2007, he began dating Mary Kate Olsen. Or was it Ashley Olsen? No, it was Mary Kate. Whichever one it was, for a brief period, Armstrong was putting it to an anorexic ex-child star more than half his age. Not bad for a guy with one ball.
[edit]
Post-Cycling
Since retirement, Lance Armstrong has focused his efforts on the Lance Armstrong Foundation and other interests, such as admiring his dimples in the mirror and going on talk shows wearing a sport coat/T-shirt combo.
Lance Armstrong also ran the New York City Marathon, making him the second high-profile dick to do so after P. Diddy in 2003.
Armstrong has even publicly contemplated entering politics. On more than one occasion, he has hinted at possibly running for governor of Texas, for which he is obviously well qualified via his high school GED and a life experience limited almost entirely to riding a bike, getting chemo, and appearing in Us Weekly.

The Gonda Submits....

Wolf SL (all carbon) on a Cervelo Soloist Carbon.
About 8,200 miles on the fork. Installed per instructions with the epoxied aluminum insert at a reputable shop (bout new at my LBS). VERY short (I run no spacers at all). FSA OS 115 stem torqued to spec. 155-165# rider. Stopped at an intersection, heading for some hill riding (Indian hill area of course for the Cincy peeps). Started and torqued the bars some to get a jump through the intersection at the green light - SNAP! Down, right in the middle of the intersection. Just about got ran over by the minivan behind me (tire about 2 inches from my leg). Didn't know what happened. Funny part was after the "rescue me" call to the Mrs., a biker comes by to ask if I was OK. He was a BIG guy on a new looking cyclocross bike that he hopped a few curbs and things to get to me. He chuckled seeing me in my roadie kit and my ultralight (15.6 lbs) Cervelo with the steerer snapped. He probably wouldn't have stopped at all if I was in my Tri get up and tribike! We chuckled a sec about our *differences* before he spun off ...

Broken bike parts have a chain reaction....

Not all breaks are carbon... note Alu steer tube on George's bike-

Did some training today, and.....

You're gonna need to click on this to really get it!

Clever little snippit for all who understand wattage..
Before the 2004 Tour, Armstrong was 74 kgs and 493 watts (that's at lactate threshold, which the lab measured at 6.1 liters/minute in 1993). Ferrari said the “magic number” for Tour contenders is 6.7 watts per kilogram of body weight. Damn- more on this guy tomorrow....

2 Stories.... one END

Story #1
A search helicopter found two skiers who have been missing since Saturday at a Lake Tahoe resort, according to the Placer County Sheriff's Department.Patrick Frost, 34; and Christopher Gerwig, 32; both of San Francisco were discovered near the Hell Hole Reservoir about seven miles west of Alpine Meadows at 10:30 this morning.... bla blabla
Story #2
These frickin city Jackass' go skiing on sat in a huge storm with high avalanche danger and set off a search - performed by locals up here who know when to stay in vs. these yahoo's who are fueled on energy drinks and X-Terra commercials. BBI is on Search and Rescue and spent sat night on standby at the mtn. as they were held back due to extreme avalanche danger and only allowed to go out at 10am the next day - and stay out till dark! Why? Cuz these two selfish fucks who are "so experienced" "expert skiers" and now "News at 10 heroes" don't give a shit there are upwards of 200 people risking their lives to save theirs! DARWIN, HELP US! Not to mention the searchers missed the 3min Super Bowl!! BBI said to me when he does the "be safe" talk to school kids - the first thing is to stay put... Nissan must have left that out of their commercial. BBI: "when you loose the remote, is it sometimes hard to find?" "yes" "well how hard would it be to find it if it kept moving"? "Hard"! "Yes little boy in the red shirt" "ummm, er ah, why do they call you Broke Back Idiot"?

So thank god our heroes are safe! Thank God they were soooooooo experienced! Thank God they bless us in our little mountain town with their all knowing of the outdoors, and thank god their back in SF where they belong sitting in some Marina Dist. bullshit no name bar with the rest of the office pool buying them drinks. Oh what a water cooler story they have......

Shoot, almost forgot... all this great adventure and its all on you my friend - the Placer Co. Tax Payer! So raise your glass and toast these all American heroes as they tuck into their warm beds tonight - I'm sure when they come down from their high they'll make every effort to cover the cost of their rescue. Right? Hell ya, their Heroes!!

Paskenta... nice break in the weather!

Paskenta
From Peter:
Paskenta Details: 100 mile non-sanctioned race.
We had a great day up in Chico yesterday, teammates that made the trek, got lucky, no rain and clear. Those in attendance, were Tim Creswell, Rick Bradley, Nils Johnson, Chris Bozzuto, Peter Allen.
The roads were dry and we had a south wind most of the time at about5-10 mph. Nils made the select group about 46 miles into the ride, with Rick and Tim making the second group just before the gravel section. I understand, they almost made it to the lead group by 100meters, but missed the big surge. Both Chris and I were in the thirdgroup and came in with Rick and Tim about 3 minutes behind thefinishers. As for the gravel, what gravel, the rock was hard packed, no rock, a few chuck holes, but fast. Great job to everyone, it was a hard 100 miles. Nils finished sixth place, excellent job bro. Give a shout to Chris, he went through all kinds of swings, feelling good to not, to good, to not, to finish his first 100 mile ride ever! That first beer yesterday must have tasted good! See everyone next weekend, either Sat. or Sun.
Peter
